Full Leather Soft Cover Workshop with Lang Ingalls - January 17 & 18, 2026.

In this technical two-day workshop we made a flexible leather book, using continuous plane sewing, suede pastedowns + flyleaves, and leather endbands.
This was an excellent class and Lang is a gifted teacher. She is thorough, she is kind, and she is extremely generous with her bookbinding knowledge. Having taken a course with Lang previously, I knew we were safe in her hands.
She guided us with demos and she provided a syllabus, listing every step in the process with room for our own notes.
Some highlights were: tools discussion (for example, different types of hammers for rounding and backing), discussing the advantages and drawbacks of suede, tips for adapting to the unpredictability of adhesives and substrates, and sharing supplier recommendations.
On the morning of the second day, Lang checked in with everyone about how the process was going so far, which proved to be incredibly valuable because it opened up a discussion to identify some techniques and methodologies that have alternatives. I value this in a classroom so much: to have an instructor break down a process to allow for students to ask, “could we do it another way?”. Not only is it always very helpful to know when there are other options or approaches available, but the opportunity to tap into an instructor's knowledge of a process in this way is invaluable.
Thanks to Lang and everyone who attended for a great weekend!
