Neverwhere, Neil Gaiman’s modern steampunk classic, reveals a disturbing alternate world of “London Below,” inhabited by shady characters, speaking rats, and mysterious supernatural beings, set against a backdrop of the mazes of London’s Underground.

Design binding/altered book. Shaped boards are clad with distressed copper leaf and edged with brass-nail detail. Window panels of copper and brass are covered in mica and framed with rivet detailing. Keyhole clasps are of stamped brass. All pages are treated with inks and transfers. Included are additional front and back pages with handwritten excepts of the “mental diary” of the protagonist. Endsheets are reproductions of an early 20th-century London Underground map, showing the nonexistent British Museum station, pivotal to the story.
