The intermountain landscape has shaped my sense of the earth we inhabit, its power and miraculous moods. Seeing across a volcanic rift for sixty miles to the mountain range beyond, there is an illusion, “mirror”, of quiet with a history of violent uplift and explosions.

All of this, with its geysers and trembling caldera, is “smoke” being steam. The most powerful aspect is the power lurking beneath it, rumbling and waiting to make itself known.
